United Methodist Church's Mission Statement

Practical Divinity

John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.

We want to grow our love for God and for our neighbors. Our General Rule of Discipleship (To witness to Jesus Christ in the world, and to follow His teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship, and devotion under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.) is a simple guide for the Christian life.

United Methodists affirm the faith shared by all Christians, with particular emphasis on God's grace and on Christian living. Discover what it means to be a United Methodist.
Communion is the Lord's Supper.  Christ invites "all who love Him, who earnestly repent of their sin, and seek to live in peace with one another."

Grace and responsibility are key components of Wesleyan Christianity.  For John Wesley, God’s grace must have practical application.
